The Casting Controversy

Matt Bomer was a prime contender for the role of Superman in a project titled “Superman: Flyby”. The film directed by Brett Ratner and the audition scene which was said to be impressive surely didn’t go unnoticed by Bomer. However, he did not get the role but this led to many speculations and gossip.

Debunking the Myths

Some of those people assumed that Bomer’s homosexuality was behind his failure to clinch the part. But even Jackie Collins, an author, cited this in an interview in 2012. However, both Bomer and people acquainted with the project negated it and said that his potential homosexuality was not the reason for his absence but complex studio politics and alterations in the vision of the director.

The Director’s Change

Originally, Ratner planned on casting Bomer but the studio wanted an actor who was more of a mainstream star. This clash made Ratner get out of the project, and the new director, McG, decided to adopt a different strategy for casting the movie. Finally, the actor who got the role of Superman for playing in the film “Superman Returns” in 2006 was Brandon Routh.

Bomer’s Superman Legacy

While Bomer never played Superman in live-action, he did voice the character in the 2013 animated film “Superman: Unbound,” thereby adding to the Superman lore in a manner that the various films and television series could not.
