Take a Look at Cage’s Spider-Man Noir

Leaked photos give a glance of Cage on set, wearing a dark trench coat. Not yet in full costume, one can envision that this is perhaps some sort of origin story moment for this iteration of Spider-Man. The new storyline for Spider-Noir will apparently centre around an ageing, down-on-his luck private investigator in 1930s New York City; so gritty and possibly hard-boiled, this is a far cry from the youthful Peter Parker audiences are familiar with.

The cast will further be supported by the likes of Lamorne Morris, Brendan Gleeson, and Li Jun Li, to name a few. Having Cage’s acting on board and considering the creative team that has come up with this film for Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, Spider-Noir may turn out to be the much-needed fresh breeze superhero genre has yearned for so far. Of course, Spider-Man Noir will always be a very successful character in the Spider-Man universe.

This first appeared in the comic book series Marvel Noir. Within this kind of universe, he is inserted into a 1930s noir-inspired world where he is a hard-boiled private investigator trying to solve crimes in a rotten and evil New York City. The important characteristics of Spider-Man Noir are:

Dark and gritty: Noir Spider-Man is as far removed from the bright, cheerful Peter Parker we’re accustomed to. He’s a hardened detective, really cynical in his outlook and violent in nature.

Costume: He wears a black and white trench coat, with a fedora to complete the aesthetic look of noir.

Powers: His powers are almost as extensive as those of the normal Spider-Man, but at a much darker level. He has the strength, agility, and reflexes that are over twice that of an ordinary human being. He can climb up on walls and shoot webs.

Spider-Man Noir in Marvel

Marvel Noir comics: He was first introduced as a character in the Marvel Noir books, which were a noir version of some of the Marvel classic characters.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse: He was voiced by Nicolas Cage in the well-acclaimed computer animated movie, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

He’s re-emerging in a new live-action series based on the Spider-Man Noir version and will appear again. Some questions on how he got his origins, among the other things about this dark, gritty world he calls home, will be answered.

Spider-Man Noir and Other Spider-Man Roles

The role of Spider-Man has been essayed by a variety of actors on the big and small screen and beyond in the Marvel franchise, each one putting his or her spin on the character. Let’s take a look at some of the most memorable portrayals of Spider-Man:

Tobey Maguire, 2002-2007: He was really at the helm of and did all the right undertones for the lost boy awkwardness and toughness of the character.

Andrew Garfield (2012-2014): Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man, in the two Amazing Spider-Man films, portrayed him mature and cynical. He wore that angst very well over to that of reality.

Tom Holland (2016-present): Here, again, an energetic and funny yet very young Spider-Man. He is not a very hard fit for the avengers team, but then he still puts on his own character.

Neil Patrick Harris, 2003: Harris voiced the Spectacular Spider-Man, which received critical acclaim for its more mature approach in storytelling and action with much controversy between the developing characters.

These are just examples among many who have made Spider-Man live in the world of creative works. Each one, in fact has added their own flavor to the legend of being one of the most iconic superheroes in popular culture.
