Ryan Reynolds has shared a cryptic video of an Avengers flag.

Ryan Reynolds’ Cryptic Post

Ryan Reynolds has a habit of posting funny, cryptic, mysterious posts on social media, one of which includes an Instagram looping video that sends fans into a frenzy.

The video has the Avengers logo on a blue flag, defaced with an anarchist symbol, giving way to several theories on what this could mean. The provocative image opened the deluge for speculation over Deadpool’s role in the MCU.

Fan Theories Run Wild

The post has been basking in many fan theories, such as whether a new faction will be foreshadowed, called the Anarchists, or whether a resistance will rise against a tyrannical regime.

Some fans believe the desecrated flag foreshadows a plot where Deadpool and Wolverine indeed are part of an underground resistance. Others feel it could be hinting toward a possible “Avengers 5″ appearance for Deadpool.

“Deadpool & Wolverine” is directed by Shawn Levy, serving as the sequel to “Deadpool 2”. The rights to Deadpool were passed to Marvel Studios when Disney acquired 20th Century Fox in 2019. The new movie will be the first R-rated movie in the MCU, adding all the dark humour and action from the former ‘Deadpool’ movies.

Hugh Jackman’s Return

One of the most exciting things about this movie is Hugh Jackman coming back to play Wolverine. His iconic character has been missed by fans, and now pairing up with Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool is going to run on a dynamic, entertaining duo.

Reynolds and Jackman open their dialogue, begging Acerola Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige to unsign Wolverine from retirement. It marked Jackman’s return to the character after seven years, which he said had impacted on his body and mind.

Director Shawn Levy stated that in itself, trying to find an original story for the third instalment was a challenge: “We needed a story that’s worthy of a reason for Deadpool to enter the MCU but it’s also grounded and fresh. It wasn’t until Hugh Jackman agreed to come back that he could have those fruitful discussions with Feige, which at last greenlighted the project”.

Marketing Genius

Despite all that excitement and rumour-mill churning, let’s not forget Ryan Reynolds is a marketing genius. He knows how to engage with his fans, stir up some anticipation with his cryptic posts.

Whether this defiled flag is seriously willing to cast the indication that there’s more in the relationship between Deadpool and the Avengers or it’s just Reynolds playing with the fan’s expectations, remains to be seen.
