A Cast of Legends. and a Few WTF Moments

We knew “Deadpool & Wolverine” was going to be a wild ride. But what we DIDN’T know was that the surprises would be so plentiful it’d leave our jaws on the floor and our social media feeds absolutely flooded with “OMG!”s. From the fabled X-Men to unexpected Marvel alumni, this movie pulls out all the stops, creating a love letter full of nostalgia for comic book fans of all ages.

It’s the original X-Men crew, blasting in for a splash—or rather, telekinetic toss.

First of all, the crew in OG X-Men includes Professor X, the ever-wise but slightly telepathic leader, masterfully played by legendary Patrick Stewart. Storm, the goddess of weather-wielding, is returning after years away and is now played by Halle Berry. Then there is Jean Grey, telekinetic Phoenix, back and in the arguably little more than a blink-and-you-miss-it appearance played by Famke Janssen, reminding us of these X-Men’s powerful past.

Deadpool Pokes Fun at the MCU (and Himself)

Of course, Deadpool wouldn’t be Deadpool without some fourth-wall-shattering shenanigans. One of the more comical scenes features him stumbling into none other than a reprised role from Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan of the Iron Man franchise. The ensuing dialogue is a master class in being meta, poking fun at the interconnectivity of the MCU and Deadpool’s outsider status.

Surprise! It’s Blade with a Blade (and a Quip)

Wesley Snipes as the immortal blade-wielding vampire hunter Blade—he still has it. You know, from his days of blood-sucking-tastic killing and madness? Good times, those were good times. Anyway, he’s back and ready to kick ass like it’s 2000s Marvel movies all over again. The banter between him and Deadpool is great and hilarious, not to mention unexpected.

A Family Affair: Lady Deadpool and X-23 Join the Fray

Even the cameos reach beyond established heroes, like Blake Lively joining the fray as Lady Deadpool, a female counterpart for the Merc with a Mouth. On-screen chemistry is undeniable among them as the film injects a tinge of romance—well, at least Deadpool’s warped concept of it—into the madness.

But that’s not all. Dafne Keen has returned as the X-23, Laura Kinney, from “Logan.” It is a beautiful scene to see her with Wolverine for a second and makes one nostalgic about Hugh Jackman’s last performance of his character in the film.

International Flair: Gambit joins the Party (Finally!)

For years, fanboys clamored to see Channing Tatum take on Gambit in a solo movie. While that dream remains unfulfilled, “Deadpool & Wolverine” gives fans a satisfying consolation prize. Tatum has his shot at finally playing the Cajun mutant, bearing a charming accent and a signature playing card toss.

Even the TVA Gets a Mention … Because Deadpool

It’s a genuinely surreal, albeit funny, sequence: Deadpool finds himself fighting off a TVA—Time Variance Authority—soldier, played by none other than Rob McElhenney, real-life co-creator of the show “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” That kind of meta-reference feels genuinely Deadpool—it spotlights his ability to wreak havoc on any narrative, even ones governing time travel.

A Cameo Extravaganza with a Point

While undoubtedly the amount of cameos could verge on excessive, there’s something clever to it all. It has celebrated a rich cinematic history, such that of Marvel, and has been an ode to the X-Men franchise, making it a fun dig at the trend of an interconnected superhero universe. Plus, this is Deadpool—we’re talking about a guy who thrives on the unexpected and wouldn’t be caught dead, literally, in a “normal” movie.

Beyond the Cameos: A Hilarious, Action-Packed Adventure

But “Deadpool & Wolverine” isn’t just about surprise appearances. It is full of that wise-cracking action praised by fans from both characters. While the story itself is still somewhat mysterious, it is sure to be a wild ride as Deadpool’s chaos finally meets Wolverine’s mayhem in a way that will have fans on the edge of their seats.
