Toy Story (1995) – The One That Started It All

Whether one is talking about Pixar animation studios, there is no way one can fail to mention Toy Story. The release of this animated movie in 1995 was not only a debut of Pixar company’s full-length picture, but also the first full-length picture made using the computer technology in the history of cinema. The first was Toy Story which was directed by John Lasseter and created a new world for us in which toys are animated and come alive when people are not watching them; the main characters Woody and Buzz Light-Year became instant classics.

Finding Nemo (2003) – A Journey Through the Ocean

Another fan favorite movie that is so good that it has to be included in the best of Pixar movies is Finding Nemo. This animated film set deep under the sea was launched in the year 2003 focuses its main character, Marlin, a clownfish seeking to search for his lost son Nemo.

That which sets Finding Nemo aside is its astoundingly done animated aquatic environment, and not easily forgettable characters like the Dear John- esque fish named Dory, and of course, the interesting theme of parenthood and the bond between a father and son. It is a motion picture by Andrew Stanton and is a beautiful cinematographic piece that also has themes of courage, endurance and, most of all, the value of family. This is a film that has warmed the cockles of the hearts of sufficiently many viewers and remains one of the most popular options for family movie nights.

Up (2009) – An Adventure in the Skies

I have seen many movies that either make me laugh, cry or inspire me for its entire duration, but ‘Up’ is one of the lucky few that I achieved all that in the initial ten minutes of it. Up is an animated film by Pixar Animation Studios that came out in 2009 and was directed by Pete Docter.

The movie is a story of Carl Fredricksen a 78 years old balloon salesman, who after the death of his wife ties thousands of balloons to his house and fly away to South America to fulfill a dream of a lifetime that was promised to his dead wife. He gets these companions along the way: a young clawed Wilderness Explorer named Russell; a talking dog named Dug; and a sensitive and musically talented flightless bird, Kevin.

What sets Up apart is striking emotional resonance achieved by the show’s most basic narrative techniques. Such a scene in which a family starts their life together is considered to be one of the most touching in the history of animated films. Up is a gorgeous wake up call that adventure exists, and one shouldn’t wait to grab it.

Coco (2017) – A Celebration of Family and Culture

Coco is one of the most wonderful films because it clearly emphasizes the importance of family, culture and music. It was released in 2017 and directed by Lee Unkrich. The movie revolves around a young boy named Miguel who aspires to be a musician in spite of his family against music. On El Dia de los Muertos, he finds himself in the Land of the Dead where he embarks on a journey to discover his family history and back home.

With its mesmerizing animation, profound cultural representation and endearing tale about the significance of family and remembrance for our ancestors, Coco is certainly unique. In addition to that, it is among the few Pixar films with identity, tradition and connection themes.
