Now one of the biggest sitcoms in the world, “How I Met Your Mother” ended airing in 2014, and the cast has gone on to have incredibly diverse careers.

Members of the cast and crew may have captured the hearts of their fans through television and film but their performances reflect that they are more than just the characters they portray of Ted, Robin, Barney, Lily, Marshall, and the Mother. It is time to check in on the HIMYM cast, and see what they are up to, career-wise.

Josh Radnor (Ted Mosby) – The Renaissance Man 

As the heartthrob endearingly appealing Ted Mosby, Josh Radnor has delved into a copious number of acts after the show. Radnor has featured in more serious television shows including ‘Mercy Street’ and in the television series ‘Hunters’ that airs on Amazon Prime. However, acting does not seem to be the only sphere of interest for Radnor – he has also tried himself in music.

He has a few studio albums that show off different facets of Sulivan and the man behind the character of Ted Mosby, including an existentialist singer-songwriter. Radnor has a keen interest in arts; he still actively participates in theater where he acts and directs; thus, a versatile man in many forms of art.

Cobie Smulders (Robin Scherbatsky) – From Canadian Pop Star to Marvel Hero 

That saucy Canadian beauty, Cobie Smulders, the fierce and independent woman of How I met your Mother’s Robin Scherbatsky is still kicking around in Hollywood. Smulders is a firmly rooted actor of the Marvel Cinematic Universe who returned as Maria Hill in several big movie hits.

Her connection to MCU has ensured that she remains relevant but she has not relaxed. Smulders also acted in several TV shows including Friends from College TV show and appeared in How I Met Your Father which is a spin-off of HIMYM Cobie Smulders has successfully moved to a new genre of show from comedy to action packed movies.

Neil Patrick Harris (Barney Stinson) – A Triple Threat 

The Barney Stinson of the screen, Neil Patrick Harris till today remains one of the most talented performers in the industry. Subsequent to HIMYM, Harris had the chance to portray Count Olaf in the Netflix series of “A Series of Unfortunate Events,” a role that enabled the comic actor to have the chance to flex his dramatic muscles as well.

He also signed for ‘The Matrix Resurrections’ continuing his movie portfolio to include a high-profile project. Broadway too saw Harris in “Hedwig and the Angry Inch”, a show for which he won the much-coveted Tony award. More recently he starred in the Netflix series “Uncoupled” and again, he demonstrated how versatile he is as an actor, a singer, and a dancer.

Alyson Hannigan (Lily Aldrin) – From Witch to Waltz 

Lily Aldrin’ from HIMYM, played by Alyson Hannigan, has not twiddled her thumbs post the show’s wrap up. Fancy Nancy and numerous other animated programs need the voice lending of Hannigan and she appeared in the live Kim Possible movie as Dr. Ann Possible.

Unfortunately, acting was not enough for Hannigan who ventured into reality TV and danced on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ in 2023 and came fifth. Hannigan’s career remains active and vibrant, as a comedian, an actress and at times a dancer depending on the role that is being offered.

Jason Segel (Marshall Eriksen) – Crafting New Stories 

One of the series’ leading actors is Marshall Eriksen – an enthusiastically perky Jason Segel – who has explored many areas since shooting the finale to HIMYM. Segel has appeared in films like “Our Friend” and HBO’s series “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty“, he showcases his talent for both drama and comedy.

Apart from acting, Segel co-created and featured in the Apple TV+ showShrinking’, a show that received notable reviews, and he was named for an Emmy award. Across the recent years Segel has been able to maintain this as a touch to his ability to create good stories and rich characters in Hollywood

Cristin Milioti (Tracy McConnell) – Rising Star 

Donning the Mother gown and portraying the character Tracy McConnell, popular actress Cristin Milioti also known as Cristin M. Ross has been quite active in various celluloid ventures. She has depicted tremendous characters in award-winning series such as “Fargo” and “Made for Love” and she has always impressed several people.

Max Greenfield’s costar in the critically acclaimed movie Palm Springs, her performance was well received hence expanding her portfolio. In the future, she will be appearing in the much-awaited series, “The Penguin” hence, this career’s trajectory for Milioti most definitely seems to only be upward.

The Mosby Kids – All Grown Up 

Fonseca and Henrie, who featured as Ted’s children Penny and Luke Mosby have also gone on to have a prosperous future. Fonseca has appeared in popular television series like “Agent Carter” and “9-1-1: Lone Star,” while Henrie has expanded his career into directing, as well as acting in films like “Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2″. Both actors have grown and left childhood roles behind and are concretising themselves in numerous cinematographic productions. 

A New Life Begins the stars of the show ‘How I met your mother’ have transitioned from their famous characters and have been active in the industry creating a difference. As we have seen, every personality in HIMYM has tried something different from acting and singing, and everybody has demonstrated he or she is multi-talented.
