Why Kit Harington Avoids House of Dragon
Inside Kit Harington's Emotional Reasons for Not Watching the Game of Thrones Prequel
Hello everyone, game of thrones lovers are here! As a fan of the Game of Thrones, you will understand how it has been a mixture of needed emotions, switching factions, and various fights throughout the seasons.
And now that House of the Dragon is released fans are submerged into the world of Westeros once again. However, there is one alumni of the series who has not been in any of the viewing parties and this is Kit Harington who played the role of Jon Snow. It suddenly occurs to you why Kit is not tuning in to the new prequel? It is now time to analyze his reasons and what they might imply for his further cooperation with the franchise.
Why Kit Harington Is Avoiding House of the Dragon
Everyone knows that Kit Harington was one of the most memorable actors of the original Game of Thrones series as Jon Snow. Besides, who would not remember his glare, his fight with the white walkers or his reaction at learning he is really Ned Stark’s bastard? Still, one can understand that Kit has truly grown with the saga, but at the same time, he stated he has no intention to hurry and watch House of the Dragon.
Kit finally confessed to our reporter that he has not seen the new series and the reasons he had to skip them are rather comprehensible. He said that after more than nine years of immersing himself in the universe of Game of Thrones, it takes a toll on him switching back into the audience’s shoes. It is too close to home he stated that he finds the show relatable and while watching the show might trigger memories from being on the set that he cannot handle.
The Emotional Toll of Playing Jon Snow
Kit’s inability to watch House of the Dragon also ties into the stress that the role of Jon Snow caused him. We, the viewers, were witnesses to all the trials Jon was put through – loss of his close ones, burden of leadership in the middle of furious battles. However, what was not taught was the Effects this role had on Kit himself.
Kit, in earlier interviews, has not shied away from admitting that during, and after the show, he had mental health issues. Such a hectic work schedule and constant expectation to embody the very popular character proved to be overwhelming for him as he barely realizes who he is – Jon Snow. To Kit, it is possible that watching House of the Dragon would be very uncomfortable, as it could refresh his memory of the struggles he faced during that period.

Respecting the Legacy of Game of Thrones
As to why Kit might be avoiding the prequel, there could be a lot of factors, but one of them could be that it is out of respect for the original series. This show was Game of Thrones, and it’s evident that Kit indeed has high regard for the culture the series left behind. Kit, by deciding not to watch House of the Dragon, he might actually be empowering himself not to lose the memories of Game of Thrones however distorted by the new show.
I also thought that it must be said that House of the Dragon will be set in a different period in Westeros, before the events of Game of Thrones. Even in the case of the prequel, fans are provided with a new perspective on the Targaryen reign, which, unfortunately, is not the story Kit was immersed in. To him watching the show could be something for which he just does not care enough at this stage in his life.
What Kit’s Decision Means for His Future in Westeros
This could be taken to mean Kit has not ruled out the possibility of a return to Westeros as such but he has consciously decided to avoid House of the Dragon. Furthermore, Jon Snow spin-off series rumours have been floated around at the time meaning that Kit could possibly put on the fur cloak and sword once more. If these rumors are true, it could be that Kit is just more interested in his possibly coming back to the role, rather than being immersed in a different story, but in the same universe.
In the same fashion, for fans, sighting the signal that even the actors they love to watch on the screen have feelings and limitations as well. Of course, we would love to know how he felt about House of the Dragon but it is also good to respect his decision and realize that the journey of Jon snow is still continuing for him.
