Today we will look at some games that didn’t succumb to the pressure put on by the success of the movies. So without further ado, let’s look at 5 games that did proud of its parent movie.
The Godfather
When it comes to movies, The Godfather is probably the pinnacle of a well-written movie. A movie that is still being referenced and talked about in the film industry
It is only natural to see a game being made about the movie. In 2006, EA released The Godfather based on the movie series. While the game consisted only of the elements that the movie showed the audience, EA did a wonderful job with the materials they had from the movies.
The game even featured some of the actors of the original movie like Marlon Brando as the Godfather which elevated the game even further. While the game is not well designed and well optimized out there it still gets across as a fun game due to its enormous following. If you’re a fan of The Godfather, you should surely play the game if you haven’t.

Alien Isolation
The Alien movie franchise is among the most-watched movies in pop culture. The horror element featured in the movies has people hooked on it for years. The first Alien movie was released in 1979, almost 25 years ago. The movie franchise has made many fans down the road releasing 7 mainline movies with the latest movie Alien: Romulus coming out in August 2024, grossing over 350 million $.
So it’s not a surprise to see games being made about these movies. And Creative Assembly probably did it the best. Alien Isolation came out in 2014 and was published by Sega who was behind some of the other great games like the Yakuza series.
The game did fantastically well in capturing the horror element of the Alien movies. The game was well done in terms of the mechanics and environment to build the atmosphere of the original movie it was based on. The game had some amazing features like using your mic to capture sounds that would alert the Alien if you’re being too loud, mechanics like these brought the game even closer to the movies. And it shows how good it was with fans of the game still wanting a sequel or a remake of this game.

Spider-Man 2
When talking about popular movies that would naturally demand a game being made around it, Spiderman would probably be one of the top of the charts. This iconic superhero has fans all over the world. Throughout the year, we have seen lots of movies and read countless comics about this beloved superhero.
So it’s no surprise so many games are being made around it with games releasing and being made every few years. You probably heard of Marvel’s Spiderman release in 2023. But we are not putting any new Spiderman games, instead, we are going back to 2004 when Spider-Man 2 was released. The 2004 action-adventure game was developed by Treyarch and was published by Activision. It was based on the 2004 movie Spider-Man featuring the iconic Spider-Man played by Toby Maguire.
The game improved on almost everything about its predecessor Spider-Man(2002). Improving graphics and functions like rope swinging which was drastically better than the previous one. The fans of the superhero loved this game and for good reason, it was very refreshing to swing around the open world the game featured with the new improved physics.

X-Men Origins Wolverine
X-Men Origins: Wolverine came out in 2009 developed by Raven Software. The game was based on the 2009 film of the same name. It was a hack-n-slash game which was simple in its core but was a blast to play.
The game featured some of the iconic characters that also featured in the movie. Characters like Gambit, Sabretooth, and Deadpool make the game even more iconic. But the department in which the game flourishes is the combat. The combat system for the game was perfect for a Wolverine game. The feeling of being Wolverine eating bullets left and right while slashing waves of enemies hit differently. The game was arguably better than the movie because it showed gruesome details of a typical Wolverine kill, which would make it even more Wolverine than the movie in some parts.
But sadly game didn’t get as much attention at that time as it deserved. It’s still one of the most underrated superhero games and definitely deserves some more love. If you haven’t played it, give this game a try, you certainly won’t regret it.
