MCU's Biggest Flops and Top Films

Greetings to all the hardcore fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) or MCU for the not so enthusiasts. Regardless, if you are the hardcore marvel comics aficionado or just an occasional moviegoer, there is always something rather engaging to talk about in regards to the MCU.

Today, we’re going to explore some intriguing questions: The biggest flop in the MCU . What movie do the public rate higher? And is the MCU doomed now? Hold onto your seats this is a roller coaster ride through the heights and the lows of one of the most successful film series of all time.

What is the Biggest Flop in the MCU?

Even though the MCU is now full of brilliant blockbusters, not all MCU’s films became a brilliant hit. The largest disaster of them all is the 2021 film “Eternals. ” Nevertheless, even with the generous and brave narrative and a star cast with Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, and others, “Eternals” did not impress both critics and the general audience. The film was trying to add one more cosmic branch to the MCU, but the film was way too confusing and added too many new characters that audiences could not follow.

More ‘critically,’ “Eternals” was panned, making it hold one of the lowest ratings on Rotten Tomatoes by MCU titles at 47% as of 2024. Financial impact: contrary to some marvel films, its collection was miserable and it grossed $402,085,985 worldwide. For a Marvel film, especially this one which was produced with such a large budget and high expectations, this was considered to be rather disappointing.

Which MCU Movie Has the Highest Rating?

On the other hand let’s discuss the MCU’s greatest successes. Avengers’ none of Towner’s films have been made after 2019 but the first one “Endgame” is widely received both by critics and viewers. Not only is it listed as one of the top grossing films ever, but it is one of the highest ‘user’ rated films as well. Collecting 94% of critic score and 90% of audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, “Endgame” is indeed a globally acclaimed film.

Avengers: Their last film, “Avengers: Endgame” was an example of finishing the storyline that started more than 10 years ago and linked to the 21 movies in total. In this respect, the movie did not disappoint the audience by offering both big effects and outstanding acting and providing the long-awaited narrative for numerous characters that underwent evolution. It is a film many can wonder how it was even made let alone being part of the MCU and a cinematic achievement.

What is the Lowest-Grossing Film in the MCU?

Unexpectedly and to the readers’ perhaps disbelief, one can consider “The Incredible Hulk” (2008) as the MCU film with the lowest grossing. This early entry into the MCU grossed $263 globally, which is a comfortable sum for most films but far from Marvel’s average. The film also had Edward Norton as Bruce Banner whose character he later lost to Mark Ruffalo in the subsequent movies.

“The Incredible Hulk” is usually underestimated when it comes to the MCU, mainly because it is one of the earliest films to be produced in the framework of the franchise. The movie’s ardent fans were apparently not ready for the new dark flavor in Iron Man and the film failed at the box office, probably because of the difference in its tone compared to the first and the second part of Iron Man.

Is the MCU Flopping?

Films like “Eternals” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp” Phase Four films such as “Loki”, “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”, “Spider-Man: No Way Home” “Black Widow”, “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”, “Falcon and the Winter Soldier”, “WandaVision”, “Ms Marvel,” and “Moon Knight” have been reviewed more critically and have performed comparatively less well at the box office when compared to the movies of the previous phases

However, one should not forget that the MCU has established an extremely high standard for such projects. All right, even its worst releases, or ‘flops’ if you will, rake in the hundreds of millions of dollars. The slump that the recent instalments exhibited could be due to a number of reasons such as franchise weariness, the fan’s increased expectations and a saturated superhero movie genre. Further, the MCU has become riskier after the Endgame’s phase which is not always successful but needed for changing the pattern.
