Number 4: Batman: Arkham Asylum

The first game in the Arkham series and the first game in this list is Batman: Arkham Asylum. It was released in 2009 by Rocksteady Studios, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Games. The game introduced the style of Batman games that would follow.

The game takes place entirely in Arkham Asylum. When you arrest Joker and bring him to the asylum, chaos strikes as Joker manages to escape the guards and take control of the asylum with the help of Harley Quinn. The game introduces a combat system that will be talked about for years to come. The game introduced fear mechanics that would increase the fear in the enemies the more of them you take out. It also features many iconic villains from the Batman universe like Scarecrow and The Riddler.

The game, as its name suggests, only lets you explore the asylum, which was not a complaint by any means as it was the first game, but it definitely kept players from exploring the chaotic city of Gotham. The game is still fantastic to play and if you are a fan of the series or just a fan of Batman, you should definitely give it a try.

Batman: Arkham Origins was released in 2013 and was developed by Warner Bros. Games Montreal after the release of Arkham City. The main villains of this game are a group of assassins and Black Mask.

The game has a different style than the other games of this series and it defines itself quite well. The game takes place when Batman is still new to being a vigilante/ superhero who goes after bad people. You can sense the anger and immature nature of this young Batman, he makes mistakes and takes a different approach to dealing with bad guys unlike the

The game was criticized for not being a Rocksteady-developed game. It was developed by Warner Bros. Montreal who wanted to capitalize on the hype of the previous Batman games. At the time not all people were massive fans of the game, but looking back, it’s not a bad game and definitely worth revisiting.

Batman: Arkham Knight will probably be the choice of many fans of this series considering it has the best visuals and the gameplay elements it offers.

Released in 2015, the game was a step forward in the Arkham series and it did quite well considering the success of the previous games.

The game is set in the open city of Gotham where the Scarecrow has threatened to pollute the city with his fear toxins. For this reason, the city is evacuated and criminals are the only people you would encounter. This makes the city perfect for the new big addition, The Batmobile, which was a blast to play. The Batmobile is so overpowered and feels amazing to go through the city breaking things and incapacitating criminals as you go along. The game does overdo the missions with The Batmobile in it but it’s not that big of a deal.

Overall the game is amazing to play with the amount of side quests and other collectibles and the visuals which always feel immersive. if you haven’t played it yet, definitely check it out, it’s a beautiful Batman game.

Number 1: Batman: Arkham City

Batman Arkham City

After the success of Batman: Arkham Asylum, fans were eager to play a Batman game set in Gotham City. And fans did get their wish as in 2011, Batman: Arkham City was released. It was an open-world experience even though it did not feature the whole of Gotham City, instead revolving around a part of it called Arkham City.

The game improved on everything the previous game had from the map to the combat system. A lot of what they did right boiled down to simply improving a game that was, at that time, a brilliant one. The game offered more side quests, more villains, more weapons, and obviously a bigger map.

The story is quite simple where Bruce Wayne is captured and taken to a highly secure part of Gotham called Arkham City along with some of the worst criminals of the City. It is up to you to uncover what the objective behind this facility is and take out the people who made it. Throughout the story, Batman encounters many characters from comics.

The game is an absolute joy to play. The free roam across the city gliding through buildings was seen first and felt amazing. It had boss battles with some impressive enemy AI for the time. All in all, it was probably the best game in terms of what an amazing job it did from the previous game. Arkham City is a must-play even if you played it at its release, you should probably revisit it someday, you won’t regret it.

So that is how we ranked the Batman Arkham games here in this list. Of course, they are all fantastic games and someone probably will have some other game as their favorite from the series. Let us know your opinion of the Arkham games and what you like about them.
